Healthy response

This weekend was a lot of ups and downs for me. Playing in regional volleyball was both good and bad stress. One way that I used healthy stress was talking to my parents after the game and realizing that sports are not the end of the world. After we lost to St. Paul I was pretty stressed out and bummed that we lost. I felt a lot better after chatting with my parents. It helped me to realize that this is not something to stress about because it is already in the future. Life will be just as good tomorrow because everyday is a new day! I feel this is healthy stress because I learned from this situation and came out better than I was before.

Relationships

I am at a stage of life where I am fully understanding that relationships take work. I would really like to work on making my boyfriends and I relationship even stronger. We have been dating for three years and we still have so much to work on. One thing that I think is getting really important is that I need to not let the little things bother me. We are at that stage where I know him so well that I start to let every single little thing annoy me. That just causes me to get crabby and starts the whole day off bad. If I can just let those little things go and continue on as if nothing happened I know he would be very apprecitive. One goal for this next week is to force myself to NOT get mad over little certain things that annoy me. Instead, I will compliment him on something that he is doing that I really like. I feel this would turn a situation from negative into positive!

Eating Disorders

This one really hit me hard. Hilary Pile was one of my really good childhood friends and was also a member of our 2008 graduating class. I saw first hand how anorexia took over her life. It becomes an obsession and than a disease. The effects are horrible. After awhile your body starts to shut down. Many times people with this disease cannot have babies because they are unable to provide the nutrients for the baby. ALso, the body is just not strong enough to carry the child. That is just one of the long term effects. Seizures are also common among people dealing with anorexia. The greatest long term effect is the shutting down of your organs and body. After awhile after so much strain on the heart and oragans your body just gives up. This is what happened to my friend. After six years of intense anorexia, her body could no longer keep up. This just breaks my heart because Hilary was an amazing girl. She inspired with her faith and her goodness. I just hope young girls can learn from this. Anorexia is so serious.

How things are coming

I would have to say that I am doing okay when it comes to my goals. I don't always do what I should be doing but it is always in the back on my mind. I have been really working on my attitude. Wednesdays are my busiest days and on that day I try to be the most positive. I think it has really worked well for me. I need to learn to do that on all days though because the days just seem to go by smoother with a better attitude. My other goal was to eat right. And to admit that is the last thing I have been thinking of. I guess I do think about it I just never make the right choice. I really need to stop drinking pop. I think I would feel all around better about myself. I also want to try and stop eating after ten at night. I feel nothing good comes from eating that late. But, I am for sure going to cut back on pop starting today!

Quote

I totally agree with this quote. I believe that if you try and be someone else, what is the point of you yourself? I believe God gives every single person their own special identity. I do believe that you can look up to people though and try to model after someone. I firmly believe that trying to be someone else is a waste of time. I feel my time would be consumed with trying to something I was not. I feel that I would be so worried on what I was trying to be instead of what I could be. I myself have personal role models. Somebody is always smarter, more mature or more knowlegable than yourself, so I believe that you can listen and take advise from those people. Be yourself instead of a copy!

Self-Concept

I do agree with that statement. When I was younger, I took to heart what my parents, teachers, friends and coaches told me. I was influenced greatly on what they would say to me. If one of my friends called me fat or ugly, I honestly thought I was fat and ugly. When my mom would tell me good things about myself, I would believe everything she said.
My parents were Authoritive parents. They set high goals for me but also gave me room to make mistakes. They realized that everyone makes mistakes. One major thing that helped - shaped my self-concept was my older brothers. They were always there to support me and make me feel loved. They would help me with my homework and tell me helpful hints. This made me feel important because my older brothers were giving me their time and their advice. My dad and brothers also would help me out in athletics. Since I was taught by boys I often was better than a lot of my kids my age. This really helped me feel confident about my ability in extraciricular activities. My mom also did a good job in making me feel pretty. She allowed me to get my hair highlighted at a young age, along with piercing my ears, and buying me the in style clothing. This helped me to feel secure with myself because I felt pretty.

Activity 1

There are many things that I would like to change about myself. One major change that I want to change is my attitude. I do understand that this change will not happen overnight but I would really like to change it over the next year. It is so easy for me to get crabby if thing do not go my way or if I am tired and I do not feel like doing something. I feel this is a very negative trait. Being positive helps everything go so much better in my opinion. Plus, I feel that if you stay positive in any situation, something good is bound to happen or come out of the situation. Also, one other thing I would like to work on is eating better. I am a huge late night eater. It is easy for me to not eat a lot during the day but when it comes to bed time snackes, I give in easy. My ultimate goal is to be someone who people can always count on to be in a good mood and bring them up. Also, I would like to eat healthier in the morning, for lunch and supper and not eat after 8.
